Beer, Data, + Drugs is an invite-only event to celebrate working in drug discovery.
This is a safe — and fun! — space for researchers and scientists to discuss everything from their day-to-day to novel discoveries, and the best tools to advance science.
Thursday, June 30th was a beautiful, sunny afternoon at the Abzu office in Copenhagen. Researchers and scientists from (in alphabetical order) ALK, Amgen, Angelini Pharma, Contera Pharma, Cardiff University, Copenhagen University, Danish National Genome Center, IQVIA, LEO Pharma, Lundbeck, Nodelab, Novo Nordisk, Novo Nordisk Foundation, Roche, Twelve Bio, and University of Southern Denmark – to name a few! – mixed and mingled over beers and snacks.
Professor Andrew D. Westwell from Cardiff University (Hi, Andy!) traveled the farthest for Beer, Data, + Drugs: Flying from Cardiff, Wales to Copenhagen, Denmark! And then he again traveled the farthest — 183 kilometers to be exact — the following day, cycling stage 2 of the Tour de France for the Grand Départ Classic, Prostate Cancer UK’s cycling charity event to fund research to combat prostate cancer.
Samuel Demharter introduces Helene Bæk Juel.
Helene Bæk Juel from København University presented on polygenic risk scores. Not only is she an Assistant Professor at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, with extensive experience in biomarker discovery, immunology, and machine learning, but Helene can also rock out as frontwoman at the Roskilde Festival.

After Helene’s presentation, we spent the rest of the evening enjoying drinks, snacks, and excellent conversation.
