Abzu is developing a technology to accelerate scientific discoveries. We’ve been applying it in the life science and pharmaceutical spaces, and we’re now hiring a front-end or full-stack developer to help us develop a desktop application. This position will be based in our Barcelona office.
Our technology, the QLattice®, is a new approach to data analysis, which allows scientists to experiment, explore, and understand new relationships in their data in an unprecedented way, bringing drugs to market, faster.
We’re looking for someone to help us bring this technology into the hands of scientists through a user interface built on top of our public-facing Python library, Feyn®. This interface will give scientists the full creative freedom to explore relationships in their data with less code — and provide workflows for users to go back and forth between the visual interface and Python — bridging the gap between scientists and data scientists.
Our current prototype uses Electron/React, with a Python backend. We’re building a highly-visual tool for data analysis, so it’s important that you are interested in data visualisation and know how to implement intuitive and interactive charts and plots in frameworks such as D3.js or similar.
You’ll be part of a self-managing team that values well-tested and clean code, where the pragmatic approach and user value wins the day. A lot of what we build requires extensive user research and innovation, so having an appreciation of the machine learning user journey and how it impacts software decisions is a benefit. We collaborate across offices and occasionally across teams, so it’s important to be good at working together (in-person and remotely), exchanging ideas, and be willing to travel between Copenhagen and Barcelona every now and again.
Our choice of technology may change, so skills in traditional front-end, web-based technologies like HTML5, CSS3, and React (or similar transferable skill set) is required.
If you feel the above matches you, it would be good to have experience in:
- Data visualisation
- D3.js (or equivalent)
- React.js (or equivalent)
- CSS (bootstrap, material UI, or equivalent framework useful)
- Unit testing and test driven development

Our SDK is written in Python, so we would love it if you also have full stack development and machine learning experience, including:
- Scikit Learn
- A decent statistical foundation
- What it means to be a user of machine learning toolkits, and the kind of problems they face
